The 21st century marks the dawn of marijuana decriminalization. And if you have some sparks of entrepreneurship, this news means a business opportunity too. But before we talk about sales and the commercial prospect of hemp trade, why don’t you learn how to grow the plant first?

1. Pick a Room

Not all the rooms in your place are ideal for growing hemp. And it does not mean that it has to be ridiculously spacious or anything. But you have to make sure that you can set up your equipment properly, and the plants there can get enough amount of lighting and fresh air. In fact, a closet, tent, and even a cabinet can be a growing media. However, note that during the early stage of flowering, hemp can grow up to three times larger. 

Moreover, you should not leave your precious cannabis exposed to much to external factors like humans, unfiltered outdoor air, or pets. They can potentially bring contaminants and pests that can hamper the development of your commodity. The room you pick must be able to provide enough protection for the plants. 

2. Choose the Right Grow Lights

There are only two ideal grow lights for indoor cannabis, HID (High-Intensity Discharge) and LED (Light-Emitting Diodes). Technically, you can use incandescent or fluorescent lamps, but they are not as efficient as the ones mentioned before. 

HID is the most common lamp among professional growers and industrial farms. Their output, efficiency, and value are superior compared to the others. However, if you need to cover a large area, putting too many HID lamps can overheat the indoor temperature. And that is where you need LED lights. They can cut the heat up to 40% less than HID. LED lights also won’t drain your wallet for the electricity bill. 

Therefore, you must think about which type suits your best. Consider the seasonal changes and how they affect the indoor temperature. Also, calculate if your grow space is large enough to have HID, or it is much economical and safer if you use LED.

3. Set a Monitoring System 

Automatization and monitoring are two keys to successful cannabis-growing at home. The lights must be turned on and off according to the plants’ needs. Marijuana plants that are in the vegetative state require the lamps to be turned on for 16 to 20 hours. In their blooming stage, they need light only for 12 hours. Rookies will turn the lamps on all day, which is a mistake that can wither the plant.  

Moreover, you must treat the plants according to the temperature and humidity in the room. Some experts even claim that too much heat or too less of it can reduce the taste of the hemp. Also, the CO2 level must be thoroughly monitored so that you know when to turn on the exhaust fan. Therefore, you must have detectors in the grow room and sync all of them to a computer.
